Anna Cavinato, Secretary

Current Affiliation: Professor of Chemistry, Eastern Oregon University, La Grande, OR.

 

Educational Background: Ph.D., Analytical Chemistry, University of Bari (Italy), 1981.

 

Professional Distinctions: Anna Cavinato is a professor of Chemistry at Eastern Oregon University working in the field of spectroscopy, non-invasive analysis and, most recently, DNA aptamer-based sensor development.  In addition to over 60 publications and several book chapters, Anna has been recognized with the following distinctions: ACS E. Ann Nalley Northwest Region Award for Volunteer Service (2018); ACS Fellow (2013); 2014 Volunteer of the Year (Richland Section); Symposia Chair/organizer, Division of Analytical Chemistry, ACS National and Regional Meetings; Distinguished Teaching Faculty, Eastern Oregon University (2008); Women of Courage and Vision – President’s Commission on the Status of Women, Eastern Oregon University (2007); Salute to Excellence Award, ACS Richland Section (2006); Faculty Fellow, Oregon Collaborative for Excellence in the Preparation of Teachers (1998-2002).

Michelle Buchanan, Councilor

Dr.  James W. Taylor)

 

Professional Achievements: Prior to assuming her current position in October 2017, Michelle served as the Associate Laboratory Director for Physical Sciences from November 2004 and as Director of the Chemical Sciences Division (CSD) from October 2000 to November 2004.  She served as Associate Director in the Life Sciences Division from January 1999 to September 2000 and as Group Leader for the Organic and Biological Mass Spectrometry Group in CSD from 1986 to 1999. She has over 150 scientific publications and reports and holds two patents.

 

Professional Service: Michelle was named an ACS Fellow in 2010 and an AAAS Fellow in 2014. She has served on editorial boards for Analytical Chemistry, Organic Mass Spectrometry, and the Journal of Mass Spectrometry, and was an associate editor for Biomedical and Environmental Mass Spectrometry.  She is currently a member of the Board of Chemical Sciences and Technology of the National Academies and serves on advisory boards for the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Chemistry, the University of Tennessee Department of Chemistry. She is on the Board of Directors of Brookhaven Science Associates and Oak Ridge Associated Universities.  She has been active in the Division of Analytical Chemistry (DAC), formerly as Treasurer and currently as DAC Councilor (since 2009). As Councilor, she has served on the ACS International Activities Committee (Associate), the Multidisciplinary Program Planning Group, the Divisional Activities Committee and the Committee on Committees, and is currently a member of the Committee for Economic and Professional Affairs.  She organized the technical program for the Spring 2013 National ACS meeting in Dallas, Texas and has held several positions within the East Tennessee Section of ACS, including Chair (chair elect and past chair) and Treasurer. She has served on several division and ACS national award selection committees.
