Jonathan Shackman, Bristol Myers Squibb
I am grateful for the opportunity to have served three terms on the Executive Committee of the ACS Subdivision on Chromatography and Separations Chemistry. During this time, I have seen firsthand the impact the Subdivision can have in advancing our field through focused, high‑quality initiatives. Our work has included administering the Young Investigator Award and symposia, launching a new grant program, partnering with CHROMacademy, modernizing our brand and online presence, contributing to LCGC Magazine, and hosting career development programming at Pittcon. I am seeking the role of Treasurer because I am committed to supporting the Subdivision’s continued growth through strong, disciplined financial stewardship. I take the responsibility of managing resources seriously and will ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment of spending with our strategic priorities. Maintaining the financial health of the Subdivision is critical to sustaining and expanding the programs that directly benefit our members. My experience across government, industry, and academia has given me a broad perspective on the needs of our community and the importance of allocating resources effectively. If elected, I will bring a proactive, detail-oriented approach to managing the Subdivision’s finances, with a focus on enabling impactful programming while safeguarding long-term sustainability. I am enthusiastic about the opportunity to serve in this role and contribute to the continued success of the Subdivision.

He began his career as an analytical chemist in the pharmaceutical industry. Â Jonathan then moved into a sales and marketing capacity finding his love of science was easily and effectively combined with strategic business expansion goals. Â Since then he has worked in business development, in the chromatography field.
David Hage, University of Nebraska – Lincoln
Throughout my career, I have been conducting research related to chromatography and analytical separations, as well as in mentoring and educating others in this field. As a member of the SCSC Executive Committee, I have sought, and will continue to seek, advancing this area by providing opportunities such as workshops, on-line discussions and research symposia that to advance separation science and the education of scientists in this field. As an editor, I have also been committed to training students and researchers in scientific writing, especially as related to chromatography and analytical separations. In addition, I have long been active in creating new educational tools on these topics for use by students and researchers in areas such as pharmaceutical science, clinical testing, and environmental science that heavily rely on analytical separations. I believe a position on the SCSC Executive Committee will provide me with new, unique service opportunities to advance analytical chemical separations in each of these areas.
Paige Sudol, US Environmental Protection Agency
I am honored to be considered for the Executive Committee Member position in SCSC. Separation science has intrigued me since my early days as an undergraduate student. My scholarly pursuits in multidimensional chromatography and chemometrics have only further cemented my fascination. There is truly no sample too complex for some form of chromatography – and when the chromatography struggles, chemometrics pick up the slack. I believe that a firm understanding of chemometric data analysis is essential for any early-career separation scientist, particularly in this new age of AI-powered everything. If I were elected to serve as an Executive Board Member of SCSC, I would promote online seminars, conference sessions, and training opportunities related to chemometrics and chromatography. I believe that my dual roles in government and academia provide me with a unique perspective on the challenges that separation scientists face with data analysis and beyond. I would intentionally encourage undergraduate involvement in the subdivision because it is, in my opinion, an invaluable networking resource. To that end, I would also promote scientific writing training for undergraduate and graduate students, because the value in effectively communicating science to the public cannot be overstated. Given my commitment to excellence in separation science, I hope that you will seriously consider me for this position – thank you for your time.
Petr Vozka, California State University, Los Angeles
I am honored to be considered for service as an Executive Committee Member of the ACS Subdivision on Chromatography and Separations Chemistry. I am an Associate Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at California State University, Los Angeles, where my research focuses on the characterization of complex chemical mixtures using advanced analytical techniques, especially comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography, GC×GC. My group, the Complex Chemical Compositional Analysis Lab, C3AL, applies separation science to emerging challenges in microplastic analysis, chemical recycling, and the production of sustainable fuels and chemicals from plastic waste.
A central part of my professional mission is connecting research, education, and community building. I have mentored more than 50 undergraduate and graduate students in an integrated teaching-research environment, and I am committed to expanding access to chromatography and separation science training across undergraduate and graduate curricula. I have also actively promoted multidimensional chromatography through ACS programming by co-organizing the Multidimensional GC symposium at ACS Fall meetings for the past three years, co-chairing the Multidimensional Chromatography Workshop since 2023, and serving on the Long Range Program Planning Committee of the ACS Division of Analytical Chemistry since 2022.
As a member of SCSC leadership, I would work to broaden access to cutting-edge chromatographic tools, strengthen training opportunities for students and early-career scientists, foster collaborations across academia and industry, and support inclusive programming that reflects the full breadth of modern separation science. My goal is to help advance separation science through research, education, and service while making the field more accessible, visible, and impactful.
