Dr. Charles (Chuck) Lucy is a Professor Emeritus at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Chuck has published over 150 analytical chemistry papers, and has been on seven editorial advisory boards including for Analytical Chemistry. He has supervised 12 M.Sc. and 25 Ph.D., four of whom received ACS graduate fellowships. Chuck is a passionate teacher who has taught classes of 400+ freshman students to discovery-based graduate lectures. He instituted a second-year research program and a course about careers in chemistry. But his primary teaching has been introductory analytical chemistry. He is a contributing author to Daniel Harris’s Quantitative Chemical Analysis, and will coauthor the next edition. Chuck has organized many W.E. Harris Teaching Workshops that bring instructors from across western Canada together to discuss the teaching of chemistry, and many analytical chemistry education symposia at the Canadian national meetings, Pittcon and Pacifichem. Chuck has previously received the Faculty of Science Teaching Innovation Award; the Rutherford Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching; has been named a 3M National Teaching Fellow; and the Chemical Institute of Canada’s Award for Chemistry Education.
